Additional Music Application Information
B.A. in Music
Direct Admission & Applied Area Auditions
Official admission offers are sent by the University Admissions office, not the Music Department. If you are admitted to the University, you are admitted into the B.A. in Music. Though:
- It is required for all B.A. in Music majors to successfully take at least four (4) semester units of applied lessons.
- All music majors in the B.A. In Music program require a successful Applied Area Audition in order to start taking lessons in their primary area of study. Students only do this once. Once in lessons, students follow the applied jury schedule depending on their entry level.
- You don't need to audition right away when you start the B.A. in Music (very common for 1st-year students who can build up musicianship before taking lessons), but if you want to be graduate in two (2) years (most transfer students), you should expect to start lessons right away, and thus prepare applied audition materials during your application process.
Students need to plan accordingly in order to not delay their graduation.
Scholarship Auditions
All B.A. in Music applicants and current students are eligible to apply for Music Department scholarships every academic year. As an new music applicant, your applied area audition materials will be the ones considered for your initial scholarship as long as they are submitted on time.
Applied Area Auditions occur on a on-going basis, up until the first week of the semester. If you want your materials to be considered for a Music Department scholarship, you need to submit them during the CSUEB application process, and no later than February 15th.
